Brandi Mowles: Today's episode is a big one. I have a super exciting announcement, but I don't want to spoil it. So let's jump on in to the November income report.

Welcome to the Serve Scale Soar podcast, the podcast dedicated to helping service-based entrepreneurs scale their online business to five figure months so they can soar into six figure years. Your host, Brandi, is a wife, mom and in less than one year created a six figure business and now she is spilling all her secrets. So you can too.

Brandi Mowles: Ok, so before we jump in, I want to read one of our Spotlight listeners, these reviews mean so much to me and I read every single one of them. So this one comes from WTG Five Stars, Valuable Content for service based businesses. Brandi is so knowledgeable and continuously offers great insight and tips for entrepreneurs wanting to grow their service based business.

Brandi Mowles: Thank you so much. And that's exactly what I want you to do. I want you to grow your service based business, whether that's your done for you one on one services. So holler to our Pinterest managers, our podcast managers, our ad managers, our VAs all you amazing people. Or if that scaling your one on one coaching business or if you're ready to create a second or third income stream.

Brandi Mowles: I love helping online entrepreneurs, especially you service based entrepreneurs. Scale your business. So today we're going to be talking about a lot. It is our November income report. You all we have to as I'm recording this, we're in December, but this is in November.

Brandi Mowles: So we really have one more month to hit our goals and to rock. Twenty twenty. And I just want to first say that if twenty twenty has been amazing for you in your business, your life, whatever it may be own that, do not feel bad about that. And I know that business wise, twenty twenty has been the best year ever. Like we all know that if you listen to the income reports. But personally there's been things that I've struggled with. I'm someone who loves to travel as you all know. I love live events. I love relationships. And so this year has been hard for me in that sense. I've been struggling with some anxiety when we get around large groups of people, which I can kind of talk about as well on this episode. But if you are doing well financially, business or maybe your life is just crushing it. I've seen so many people getting engaged in getting pregnant and wow, what an exciting time. I just don't want you to feel bad about that. It is OK to have a good year when maybe others aren't. And I think we just need to recognize and see what our business can do to help other people. So some of you work with local businesses and they've taken a big hit this year. But how have you been able to support them? How has your services helped raise their business, get them more time back, maybe take some of that stress off of them? And so I just want you to know if you're having a good year, it's OK.

Brandi Mowles: Don't feel bad about that. But I also if you're not having a good year, I want you to give yourself some grace. It has been a rough year for a lot of people, and I just want you to give yourself some grace. But I also want all of us to know they're going into twenty, twenty one. It is not going to be a magic switch that like everything's back to normal, but you can make twenty, twenty one your best year no matter what situations are going on. And so that is why we are hosting Biggie Size Your Biz Virtual Conference. I love live event so much, but that's just not possible. So I was like, how can we get the energy going in twenty, twenty one? And I've put together an amazing lineup of incredible speakers to have in twenty twenty one. So you'll want to go to and grab your tickets. They're only nineteen dollars but you all the lineup is so incredible. We have Jordan Gill come in to talk about VIP Day.

Brandi Mowles: She's been on the podcast. We have Tasha Booth coming to talk about growing an agency. She has a seven figure agency. Also, she's going to be dropping all the knowledge about that. We have Amber Dugher, which is also been on the podcast, and she is going to be talking all about taking control of your finances so you can have a biggie size life and business. And then, of course, I'll be chatting all about scaling with simplicity and what that looks like in twenty, twenty one. But I'm also going to do a breakdown of what my seven figure year look like and advice that I have for entrepreneurs who want to get to the six and seven figure goals. So we also have mompreneur panels. We have pivot in twenty twenty panels. It is going to be a jam-packed session. So this is happening January 12th and 13th. There will be a VIP day that you can apply to be part of a special training for absolutely free. But the first step is to get your tickets there only nineteen dollars. So go to to grab your tickets today. It's going to be an amazing, amazing event. It's none of this like prerecorded crap. It's all live. We're going to be able to ask your questions and so stinking excited for it.

Brandi Mowles: So make sure you go grab that ticket. OK, so without further ado, let's jump on in to the income report. You all, November was exciting. I want to say it was uneventful, but that's not true at all. And so let's chat a little bit about behind the scenes. So I talked about having a little bit of anxiety. And what we're finding out is that when I go out in public and there's like a lot of people around and I have a mask that I am struggling with some anxiety, like I get high, I can't breathe, we have to, like, leave. And so sometimes going to Whole Foods has been a struggle because you already know, like, there's always so many people and they're always tight. We try to go the mall to do some Christmas shopping. It was crazy. And so I just thought it was because I'm claustrophobic. So I've struggled with claustrophobia since I was in high school. And that's pretty much the only anxiety that I have is around like really closed spaces. And so we really thought the mask was that. But then there's times we go out and they don't really bother me. And I have been getting into human design and so Bria which, if you go follow her on Instagram, she did my human design reading and one of the things that we found is my spleen, which is in your chart is open.

Brandi Mowles: And what that does is intuition. So I'm really good about reading other people's intuition and things like that, but it also means I absorb their energy. So what we think is happening is when I'm around large groups, everyone's anxious right now, like even if you are mask on and everything, we just have people like everyone's really anxious. And so what we think is happening is when I'm in large groups is I'm absorbing all that energy and it's causing these panic attacks or anxiety attacks. And so this is something that we just need to be super aware of. And she gave me some tips. But this is one thing that I want to tell you is I did not know what human design was before November. I got a human design reading and it totally changed my life. Like how Austin and I interact has changed how I believe that things have to be has changed. So I always believe that in the mornings that I would need it a morning routine to be successful. And I've never I've tried for like 10 years to have this morning routine. I read the perfect morning or whatever, the miracle morning, all these things I'm in trying to have a morning routine for so long and they've never worked and it stresses me out.

Brandi Mowles: I'm like, I have to get up early. I have to work out, I have to drink water like all this stuff. But what I found out is that based on my human design, I'm not meant to have these very rigid routines. So that's why a morning routine has never worked for me. So now once I release that, I've been able to show up even better. I've been able to just release that. That's not mine. I've been working out more. Oh, my goodness, it's been amazing. And so if you're interested in human design, I'd follow Bria because it has really been helping. And so that is one thing I've dug into in twenty twenty is just finding out more about me and how I can show up as the best version of myself for my family and then of course for y'all. And if that's something we go into twenty, twenty one, maybe it's not human design reading, maybe you just want to figure out like a one of your personalities like disc. I highly suggest disc. You can go to maybe disc and see that it's a way to communicate better with others.

Brandi Mowles: And so I think any time we can not use these personality tests, like maybe learn more about Enneagram but not use these personalities has to put us inside boxes, but instead, how can we become better people so we can serve the people around us? Our families ourselves, I think is really, really important. So maybe dig into that in twenty, twenty one. I think it would be. I know how beneficial it's been for me and I would love for other people just to think like how can I serve myself by learning about myself so I can serve others better. Because it's the whole mask situation where on the airplane they tell you put on your mask before you take care of other people. We have to learn who we are and learn how to love ourselves before we can love others and serve others fully. And I truly, truly believe that. And I think that's been one of my biggest lessons coming in. Twenty twenty is just learning how to know myself and love myself better, and in return I can love others and serve others better. So I wasn't even talk about that. Wonder why they came up, but I'm so glad it did because I think it needed to be said so. Now let's talk about some of the business things that happen in my business in November. Twenty twenty. And so the first big decision that I made in twenty twenty was that this year would be the last year.

Brandi Mowles: I take on one on one retainer clients. So as you know, I still have two clients that I work with and they're easy like their most amazing clients are easy but I just felt that they could be served better by someone else now, so that could have more attention into is this the direction in my business that I still need to be holding on to? And how can I still be in the game knowing the like, what's going on with you all, but also not have retainer clients? And so I made the decision. I let them know that December would be our last month together and phased out all my one on one retainer clients. Now, here's the deal. I'm not giving up on one on one work because as I teach all you need multiple streams of income. And so I like the one on one. So I am going to double down and do once every other month a VIP day for clients who just really want to either schedule their launch, get their launch like planned out their ads. They're like all of that or they've been launching and they're not super happy with the results. And so I'm going to do some high ticket, one on one days with those. And so I'm already scheduling for February, which is exciting.

Brandi Mowles: And so I am going to still be doing discovery cause I'm still going to be showing up, but just not with retainer clients. And it's it's like a sad sad because I'm like, oh, man, that's how I started. That's like that's always been just how things have went. And now I'm giving that side up of my business, but I'm not giving that side up of my business. I'm pivoting to a different way to serve clients one on one and a very select few. And so this is what I always tell you. And it has nothing. I mean, Facebook ads will definitely be involved, but I'm not going to be running Facebook ads for these clients. So that's what's so interesting is that I always tell you how to pivot. And this is just me pivoting to serve my clients in a different way. So that was probably the biggest decision I made in November. And then we also launched a very, very soft launch. I wouldn't even call it a launch my beta to beggie program. And so this was only to my mastermind. The soaring inner circle mastermind has been around for all twenty twenty. And I decided that in twenty twenty one we would not be doing that program. I have loved it. I've loved my amazing students. I just wanted to go in a direction that was more structured.

Brandi Mowles: I like structure. I like people to know exactly the results that they're looking for. And I wanted to be able to put all my focus and energy on one topic instead of spreading myself too thin. So in the soaring inner circle mastermind, we had people who were growing an agency. We had people that just wanted to up level there one on one services. We had people creating courses. There was no content in there. I would do videos on hiring and things like that, but really no content. We would do two Q&A EHS hotseat sessions a month, a guest expert each month and then get it done day. So the relationships that were built in that group are so incredible and the majority of them, it's actually like eighty seven percent decided to come on over to Beta to Biggie. So we had our two day virtual. It ended up being a one day virtual event in November with our mastermind. And it was so incredible, so many takeaways. They went with their twenty twenty one plan, big revenue goals. And I did some brand new training that I've never, ever done. We did the launch debriefs. It was a blast. It was so crazy to see how much in one day they could just like make waves. And so that was fun. But at the end, I also opened up Beta to Biggie to them and like I said, eighty seven percent of them joined us over and Beta to Biggie.

Brandi Mowles: So they'll be continuing another year with me, which is so exciting. And so they were the first people to get inside and see the program. And so you'll hear all about the official doors opening in December when we did that. But just know if you want more information about beta to biggie. Come to our live event. I'm going to be sharing more information, but beat it to Biggie is my program that's designed for you to create a second stream of revenue. So I don't want you to phase out your clients. I want you to create a second stream of revenue so all your eggs are not in one basket. I think that's one of the worst things we can do as service providers is only have our revenue in one basket. So maybe of affiliate marketing, maybe you have a course, maybe you have your services like we want to have multiple streams. And so in beta to biggie. It's a super high touch program where I'm taking my students from IDEO. So so an idea for a course or membership or program and then launching it to their beta without ads or anything like that. And then over the twelve months, I'm going to take them through three biggie size launches and show them every step of the way.

Brandi Mowles: It's really cool because we get to do critique. So they submit their webinar slides or sales page. I critique them. We have some one on one calls, we have weekly Q&A. It has been so much fun and I've really been so lit up about this launches and this type of thing are like my jam. And so it's been so exciting that I've really got to get into what lights me up in my passion and I have two passions, I love seeing service providers to scale their business without a team I love, like even my ad managers like crushing it, like I love that. But then I have this, like, heart and desire for launching ads, the marketing. And it's so fun that I get to do that inside a beta to beggie and see them create that second stream of revenue for their business. So that's been really exciting for me and has been so much fun. And I was so blessed and thankful that so many of my students trusted me to continue another year with me in this program. So it has been amazing and I cannot wait to see what they create and then have them on the podcast to share their stories with you, to inspire you all to go out and create your second stream of revenue.

Brandi Mowles: Ok, so then the big announcement that has come up is, well, one, I have been inside a Serve Scale Soar and conversions for clients. I have not only been you all know, I loved Dubsado, it's how I ran my business. But I also made some decisions to not necessarily stop promoting the Dubsado, but also start promoting Honeybook. The one thing that I kept on seeing is no matter how much training, tech support, all that is that people are still getting stuck with Dubsado that there was a big learning curve. And so I never want anyone to get stuck in tech. So for several, several months, I made the decision to like, look into Honeybook, look into other ones. I've been working with Honeybook's team just to really like the ins and outs of everything. And one thing that I found is that like Honeybook's incredible. It's so simple. And one thing that I do think that Dubsado was lacking that Honeybook does a really good job at is customer support and community. And so several of my students said that there's issues with Dubsado. They tried to reach out. They kind of like dismissed.

Brandi Mowles: I tried to reach out to Dubsado about several things. I was very dismissed. I'm not bashing Dubsado. I just want you all to know from a customer service standpoint, this is why your customer service and communication is so important, because I think Dubsado is a great program. I've never had a learning curve with them. I think it's absolutely amazing. But one thing that can really put a bad taste in people's mouth is really bad customer support. And I'm not saying that their customer support is really bad. I just had several bad experiences back to back to back with them. And so I and my students were saying the same thing. So I reached out to Honeybook. The customer support has been amazing. And of course, they have the Rising Tide Society, which is a nonprofit that I think is an incredible group and does amazing things. So that was really exciting to me as well. I love supporting companies that have some kind of nonprofit involved as well or charity. So I love that. And I have just been on the phone with them. I love their concierge service just like so now my students, when they come in, they can use my affiliate link and when they sign up for Honeybook, they get my proposal template automatically installed into their account.

Brandi Mowles: So this has been the problem with deep. There's no way for me to give you my proposals. And when I've reached out to Dubsado, they said they can't do it. And so then you have to go in and manually recreate it based on the PDF that I give you. Well, with Honeybook, when you use my code, like you automatically get the proposal uploaded into your account and saves you tons of time. And I'm like, holy cow, this is so cool. So that's helping my students save time, money and energy, which I know how important that is. This was a really hard decision for me to make, to start promoting another program when I've always promoted Dubsado. And I will be honest, I think we should all have affiliate marketing and Dubsado affiliate program is just garbage. I have fourteen years of free Dubsado. Fourteen years and I'm not going to be using in fourteen years. So when I reach out to them about it, they weren't willing to work with me, which is totally fine. Understand that when I reached out to Honeybook they were so gracious, amazing. I told them what my students needed. I'm in some of their betas based on feedback and I'm so excited for what's coming with them. But this was a hard decision for me. But what just made me like, know that this was the right decision is on Friday the 13th, November, Friday the 13th, I'll never forget it. We were sitting there and I had been tracking how close to million we were because I knew we were so close and we got to a point where we were nine hundred and some change dollars off from crossing the million dollar mark. And we're sitting there on a Friday and y'all know, I don't work on Fridays and I get like all these emails at once.

Brandi Mowles: And I was like, what are all these emails? And it was all my affiliate payout for Honeybook and it was over two thousand dollars, I was like, oh, that's really cool. Like I've never done that. This is more money than I ever made with Dubsado. And I was like, oh, that's super cool.

Brandi Mowles: I'm glad this is working out. And then Austin was like, Wait, you just got two thousand. I was like, yeah, he was like, you just passed million. And I was like, we just passed million. And it was like this incredible moment. And it was such an alignment because I was like, I made the right decision. Like, this is a sign because I still struggled with it. That's why I hadn't talked about it on the podcast and stuff, because I never want to bash a company and that's not what I'm doing. Dubsado is incredible.

Brandi Mowles: There's just some things that run me the wrong way, but also because my students need to be supported and I want them to save time and energy. But so I really struggled with this decision. And then when that came through, I was like, oh my gosh, this is a sign like that was the right move for the business. That was the right thing to do. And so it was such an incredible moment, especially since it happened on a Friday because I don't work on Fridays. And so it was just like all these signs came in and I was like, we had a million. And I don't think it really sunk in. And it was just such a magical moment. And I was like, oh my gosh.

Brandi Mowles: And I looked at Riley and I was like, this is for you. Like, you can do anything, little girl. Like you set your own path, you set you're like whatever your heart desires, you go after it because we need more women having million dollar businesses.

Brandi Mowles: And it was just such a moment of like, holy cow, this is not about me. This is about all the women who listen to this podcast. This is about all the moms who have been waiting until their kids graduate or get out of the house or they've been waiting to take their steps forward.

Brandi Mowles: This is for all the women who are just like everyone else in the online space, has been doing it for so long. I can't do it. It's going to take forever. It doesn't have to take forever. And you don't have to do it in a bro market or way. You can do it by taking Fridays off. You can do it by making your family a priority and loving them and loving them hard. And you can still have a successful business. It does not have to be an either or A.. You're listening to this. Even if you're not a mom. I want you to know, like, you can have everything. It does not have to be a successful business or fulfilled life. Why not have both?

Brandi Mowles: Why not have time with your kids to go to the park, to vacation, to create memories, but also to have a successful, thriving business? And the moment was so surreal, and I still don't think it has really fully sunk in as the final numbers come in at the end of December. I think it may sink in more. But I just knew that this was not about me. This was about all the women that I hope it inspires to become millionaires because in own million dollar businesses, because we can do it, ladies, we can do this. Oh, my gosh. Your daughters want to see you do it. And even if that's not your goal, even if it's not million, I hope that this inspires you to take big, bold action and not put your life on hold because you feel like you have to because you can't have everything. You can't have your cake and eat it, too.

Brandi Mowles: I'm here to tell you you can have the biggest freaking cake with the best icing and eat it and enjoy it and not feel guilty about it and have your Fridays off, have vacations with your family, have a successful business and do it in a way that aligns with your life, your vision and your goals. And I'm super excited. This is just a fun time. I've had a lot of fun this year. I've built so many amazing relationships. I'm thankful for each and every single one of you who listen to this podcast. And it had been going on this journey with me since January.

Brandi Mowles: I remember back in December, it was November. And I was sitting there talking to my coach and I was it I said, we'll finish the year at three fifty four, twenty nineteen. And then I was like, but we're going to do a million. And I don't think anyone believed me, we came I came on the podcast and I was like, I'm going to document the whole thing. And now y'all have been here through the whole process.

Brandi Mowles: You have heard me cry, you have heard the trolls, you have heard the twenty four thousand months when I was like, oh, man, twenty four thousand does not get to ten million. You have been here for the two hundred thousand months and you have been here through the million dollar goal.

Brandi Mowles: So thank you for that. Thank you for encouraging me and listening. And y'all are the reason I show up, because I can tell you there was months that I did not want to do the income report, but I showed up because your tune in. And so I so appreciate y'all and I hope these inspire you to take your own action and do big, scary things that other people are too scared to do. Because when you take that big, scary action, that's when the clarity comes, that's when the needle moves, and so I encourage you what big scary action can you take in twenty, twenty one that's going to get you a little bit closer to the lifestyle and goal you want to achieve.

Brandi Mowles: So all that was pretty much November, exciting month, but kind of like low key all at the same time. So let me break down the numbers for you, because I always do. This is cash in the bank. So how much cash flow actually came through? The bank was sixty nine thousand four hundred and seven, so a little bit lower, but it was not a launch month or anything like that. And then revenue generated. So that's eighty thousand four hundred and five. And then most of that revenue generated came from one, two, three, four sources, but all our talk about five Serve Scale Soar and this is revenue generated.

Brandi Mowles: So brand new revenue, not cash flow through the bank. All of these are going to be higher except for beta to biggie. So Serve Scale Soar brand new members, brand new like upgrades, renewals, things like that was thirteen thousand three hundred and twelve dollars. My services were four thousand. My affiliated income was right under four thousand. It was three thousand nine hundred sixty. My delighted with Dubsado, which we don't promote. So it's just organic traffic with six hundred dollars and thirty three now six hundred and thirty three dollars and then beta to biggie brought in just under sixty thousand. And so really cool numbers, but I'll go through my expenses with the cost of services. So that's going to be like what my program we have to pay for. So CFC we send out Brownings to our new students and so we had that my beta to biggie students get gift boxes, my affiliate pay out that I have to pay out my affiliates and then Serve Scale Soar like we have mugs and stuff. We send out those two thousand seven hundred and eighty two dollars, those a little bit higher because we don't typically send out we only send out conversions for clients gifts once every six months when we have new enrollees. And then our Beta to biggie gifts were a brand new expense payroll. So my W-2 check was seven thousand dollars. But then I have to pay payroll taxes on that which was five hundred and thirty five dollars. My contractors were ten thousand seven hundred and fifty eight dollars. I love that number because that means I'm helping other businesses grow their business and I always like to see that number. At first I always prided myself that we ran such a small team, which we still do, and that number was smaller. But I love now to see that number because it means that I'm helping other moms because everyone on our team is a mom, which is really cool. So contractors ten thousand seven hundred fifty eight. Our biggest expense with that was a copywriter.

Brandi Mowles: We had do all of our emails and copies for the live event that we have coming up and then marketing. So how much I spent on Facebook ads was thirty one hundred. So that was about average for what we spend tech.

Brandi Mowles: So I decided that I want to set up a second studio and so one my laptop, the screen was totally busted and has been for a while. So I bought the new Apple and one laptop. But then I also got me everything to have a second studio, so I wanted to have one studio on my Mac, which will be more where I can move it around. So I really want to go into YouTube in twenty twenty one, but I want different views. So I bought everything that I have for my studio, but in like where I can move it around where my studio where I feel now is very permanent, like I can't move my studio. And so I went out to Best Buy and took advantage of some Black Friday deals. And then software was a thousand dollars. Education was forty one hundred. I'm in my Causes coaching program, which is helping set up everything for Beta to biggie, which is really cool. And then I also invested in a Google Analytics Live workshop in January. Google Analytics is definitely something I want to learn more about to know our numbers and tracking, and I always think numbers are super important. And then I also invested in Tagine K's email marketing.

Brandi Mowles: I just want to our email marketing is very simple right now. The tags were all messed up, so I invested in that course just for the tagging system. And so I had messaged Tarzan and we were talking. I was like, I just want your tagging system like segments and stuff. And the funny thing is she was like, yeah, they'll be really good for you. Some of it's probably going to be basic. And I said, you know, what would I invest in? Of course, I just want to get one thing out of it. And as long as I get that one thing and that one thing's, give me the money back, that's all I care about. So I spent fifteen hundred dollars for that program and I went through the tagging segment. We switched over from convert fit to active campaign. Just once again, I want to know my numbers a little bit better. So we're in the process of making that move. And in that I was just thinking like, how many times do we think that we have to go through a whole course? We have to do the whole thing. The big thing is, if you can take one thing they get you, your money's worth.

Brandi Mowles: That's worth it. Like I know the tagging system will be worth it for me to pay fifteen hundred dollars and then my merchant fees were more expensive. But hey, that means we just have more payments running through. So never mad about that. Two thousand one hundred and twenty seven total expenses. Thirty five thousand one hundred and twenty nine and we ran at fifty one percent profitability which fifty percent profitability is what I'm always looking for. I used to be really obsessed with like sixty five to seventy and I found out what I was doing is I wasn't allowing my team to be able to grow out so. Having contractors to get more of my time back, so not writing my copy and having a copywriter has been the best thing that I could have invested in because copy took me so long to do.

Brandi Mowles: And so having that has been a huge relief. So now our goal is just to always run above 50 percent. That is definitely my goal.
